The Institute of Masters of Wine

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) exists to promote the highest level of educational achievement for the wine industry, culminating in the internationally recognised qualification of Master of Wine (MW).

The Institute of Masters of Wine is proud of its prestigious position at the leading edge of wine education. It attracts motivated people who will become the next generation of highly knowledgeable professionals within the wine trade.

The Institute's philosophy is simply to promote excellence in the wine industry. To that end, the Institute has created a clear Statement of Intent.

The Institute aims to promote:

  • the highest standards of quality in wine
  • the highest standards of education in wine
  • the highest standards of trade conduct

The Institute intends:

  • to support individual members as they pursue both professional and personal goals in wine related activities
  • encourage candidates from round the world to sit the examination
  • take a leading role in international events and discussions which affect the wine industry
  • obtain support from all sectors of the wine industry for these aims

The Institute of Masters of Wine is delighted to be associated with the Japan Wine Challenge and looks forward to sending MWs to Japan to assist with the judging and to work with the Japan Wine Challenge to further the understanding of the Institute of Masters of Wine in Japan through seminars and other events.

Wine & Spirit Educational Trust (WSET)

Established by the Wine and Spirit trade in 1969, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust has an unparalleled track record in the design and delivery of wine and spirit education. Society of Wine Educators

The Mission of the Society of Wine Educators, established in 1977, is to advance wine education through professional development and certification. The SWE Japan Chapter is the largest ? it is a leader in educational activities and has a dynamic membership. The SWE is delighted to work closely with the Japan WINE Challenge to develop wine education and understanding in Japan. Robin Kelley O'Connor is the SWE President.

San Francisco International Wine Competition

This is the USA's most significant international wine event. With over 4000 wines entered each year, the San Francisco International Wine Competition is now in its 25th year. We are proud to be associated with the Japan Wine Challenge, which has the same high regard in the global wine industry.

MUNDUSvini

Meininger Verlag was founded in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in Germany in 1903 and is one of the oldest German specialist publishers. Its sunsidiary, Internationale Weinakademie MUNDUSvini organizes wine seminars, wine study trips and the Great International Wine Award. This is the largest wine competition in Continental Europe. Meininger Verlag and MUNDUSvini are delighted to have entered into a partnership with the Japan WINE Challenge which they believe will greatly strengthen the position of German and other European wines in the Japan market.
